We are currently seeking a Fabric Manager for Outerwear at our Dearborn, MI Headquarters!

Representative Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of technical and lifestyle fabrics with in depth knowledge of the industry, from concept through approval.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing, Product Management, and Design to develop all outerwear fabrics that support the growth strategy.
  • Work with the Sales Force and retailers to assist them as a technical fabric expert.
  • In Conjunction with Quality and Purchasing develop fabric specifications that support Carhartt’s position in the market for the Men’s product categories.
  • Communicate information across departments that support the development of garment specifications, marketing programs, and sales tools.
  • Manage the budget for the testing and certification of technical fabrics.
  • Mentor and train associates within the fabric development team.
  • Actively participate in the development of business plans by product category.
  • Develop strong partnerships with Product Management, Marketing and other Product Design Associates.
  • Identify opportunity for process improvement.
  • Lead integration of new technologies.
  • Manage timelines for seasonal fabric adoptions.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Development of technical and lifestyle fabrics from concept to approval are within timeline, cost and brand/product guidelines/DNA.
  • Fabric budgets will be 100% accurate and up to date.
  • Collaborates in a timely manner with all external and internal partners meeting all required Fabric deadlines and management expectations.
  • Will actively mentor and train Fabric team members for success.

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in textiles, apparel or related discipline is required or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years textile development experience, with experience in technical fabric development.
  • 2 years experience in a management, supervisory or lead role.
  • Apparel, Retail, or Consumer Products industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing operations and premium brands preferred.
  • Strong computer skills required, including experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with WebPDM, AdvantaPlan , or other PDM/PLM software a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of fabric characteristics.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment; cubicle/office setting. Extended periods of time sitting, standing, typing on a computer is required.
  • Light lifting may be required. 20 LBS
  • Typical work hours 8 AM to 5 PM or determined by Manager. Willing to work some weekends if necessary.
  • National and International travel required (up to 30%).
