We are currently seeking a Director of Fabric and Trim for our Dearborn, MI Headquarters!

Representative Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development of Fabric and Trim.  Provide vision and strategic direction linked with corporate strategies and initiatives.
  • Direct the Fabric and Trim development process from concept through approval.
  • Set the fabric and trim calendar to support the needs of Design, Sourcing and Production on a seasonal basis. 
  • Work collaboratively with Sourcing and Procurement to negotiate fabric and trim costs and lead times.
  • Provide information and support as fabric and trim expert to Marketing, Sales and retailers to assist in communicating the brand message.
  • Establish and update  fabric and trim specifications that support Carhartt’s position in the market.  Communicate specifications to suppliers, Quality and Purchasing.
  • Drive the integration of new technologies and identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation.
  • Manage and hold associates accountable for integrating consumer insights into product and for seeking out opportunities to learn more about our consumers and their needs.
  • Partner with leaders in Carhartt to ensure alignment and linkage to all strategic and tactical plans.
  • Establish a plan for associate development and training, including succession plan and career path for the Fabric and Trim Department.
  • Train and on-board new and current vendors regarding the fabric and trim development process and requirements, encouraging speed to market and product innovation.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Fabric and Trim department strategy is linked with corporate strategies and initiatives and meets the expectations of senior management.
  • Fabric and Trim development process is managed efficiently meeting all timelines, milestones and product performance100%.
  • Associates’ development, training and succession planning are well thought out, detailed and consistently communicated throughout a course of a calendar year.
  • Fabric and Trim budgets are 100% accurate and up to date.
  • Collaborate in a timely manner with all external and internal partners meeting management expectations.

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor degree is required; Master or MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum 10  years of business experience in fabric development within the apparel industry required.
  • Minimum 10 years of leadership experience of a professional product development team.
  • Strong fabric and trim development and apparel industry background; the successful candidate will be a leader in development with a focus on innovation and quality.
  • Experience in company(s) with significant manufacturing operations and premium brand experience preferred.
  • Experience with WebPDM, or other PDM/PLM software a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of fabric and trim characteristics and mill relationships.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment; cubicle/office setting. Extended periods of time sitting, standing, typing on a computer is required.
  • Light lifting may be required. 15 LBS
  • Willing to work some weekends if necessary.
  • National and international travel required (up to 50%).
